When visiting a gallery, we often focus on finished artworks, overlooking the tools and materials behind them. The Palette Project shifts this perspective, showcasing the palettes, tools, materials, and sketches of 55 Malaysian artists. The curator Danielle Lin invites not only artists from visual art like Mat Ali Mat Som, Latif Maulan, Ajim Juxta, Meikei Ho, and Liu Cheng Hua, but also designers and toy makers such as Michael Chuah and Aarifin Amin. Self-taught artists like Rekha Menon, Doreen Chew, and Jinx are also featured.
About the Curator: Danielle Lin
Not only an artist, Danielle Lin is also a young curator born after 2000. She has already built a solid portfolio of curated exhibitions including two solo shows of other artists and group shows. For 'The Palette Project,' she wants to do more than just showcase artworks; she wants to spark conversations and let artists become curators themselves, helping to grow the Malaysian art scene.

In a interview with The Star, the exhibition curator Lin describes palettes and tools as "sidekicks" that evolve alongside the creative journey, sometimes becoming artworks themselves. This exhibition highlights their sentimental value and offers a rare glimpse into the artistic process, revealing how artists shape their tools—and how, in turn, these tools shape their work. It is a great eye-opening opportunity for the public to explore each artist's creative process—how they manage their tools, how these tools reflect their artwork and personality, and how they spark conversations about artistic expression.
